How to get a manual handling certificate
- 1. Do the theory online – about 70 minutes, at your own pace.
- 2. Send your practical videos – show yourself, with your face visible, doing six lifts: ground to bench, bench to ground, a team lift, to a height, from a height, and pushing/pulling. Most people take 5–10 minutes and the videos need no editing.
- 3. Get your certificate – our instructors review your lifts and email your full Manual Handling certificate with feedback.
Who is it for?
Anyone whose job involves lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling: construction, warehouse and logistics, retail, hospitality, healthcare and care workers, cleaning and facilities staff, farm workers and office staff who move loads.
Is manual handling training a legal requirement?
Yes. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (Part 2, Chapter 4 – Manual Handling of Loads) require employers to assess manual handling risks and to give employees information and training on handling loads safely. The Health and Safety Authority’s guidance says manual handling training should be delivered by a FETAC/QQI-certified Manual Handling instructor and include a practical element – which is why our course includes the practical assessment and is delivered by QQI-qualified instructors.

How long does the course take?
About 70–80 minutes for the theory, plus 5–10 minutes recording your lifts.
When do I get my certificate?
Usually within a few hours of sending your video. We check videos and send certificates 7 days a week, including weekends. Videos that reach us by 9pm are normally dealt with the same evening; anything arriving later is done first thing the next morning.
How long do I have to send my video?
7 days from passing the theory. We send you reminders, and the instructions are in your course.
What date is on the certificate?
The date you completed the theory.
How often should manual handling training be refreshed?
Refresher training is needed from time to time – many employers ask for it every few years, or sooner if your work changes. Check what your employer requires.
